What if my daughter wants to try out for a baseball team vs playing softball?

It is important for all leagues and volunteers to understand that the baseball divisions of Little League, at all ages, are open to any child who is eligible by age and residence, regardless of the child's gender.

As a result, if a girl wishes to register and try out for any baseball division, and she meets the requirements for age and residence, she must be given that opportunity, and (like any child) must be given a place to play.

This applies whether or not the local Little League offers a Girls Softball program. As noted in Regulation IV (c), a candidate is permitted to try out for baseball or softball, but not both.

For the softball program, however, the local Little League is permitted to charter for a boys-only softball program, and/or a girls-only softball program. No divisions of softball in Little League are permitted to have boys and girls on the same team.

What equipment does a player need?

At a minimum a player should have their own glove and cleats (METAL SPIKES ARE NOT ALLOWED). Each team has a selection of helmets and bats, but many girls prefer to have their own.

Is there an easy way to determine my child's League Age for the 2012 season?

Little League provides a calculator that will provide you with your child's playing age for the 2012 season whether it's softball or baseball. Please click here.

How can I determine whether my child meets Little League Resident Eligibility Requirements to play for Willow Creek Softball?

Willow Creek Little League charter, granted by the national Little League office in Williamsport, PA, allows us to accept players who reside within specific geographic boundaries. The applications of all players are screened to ensure the child meets the residence requirements.

The WCLL boundaries include the attendance area of the following elementary schools:

Barnes

Lenox

Bethany

McKinley

Beaver Acres

Oak Hills

Bonny Slope

Ridgwood

Catlin Gabel

Rock Creek

Cedar Mill

Skyline

Elmonica

Springville

Findley

St. Pius

Forest Park

Terra LInda

Holy Trinity

West TV

Jacob Wismer

William Walker

FOREST PARK AND SKYLINE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BOUNDARY RESIDENTS: The Forest Park and Skyline Elementary school boundaries for softball will remain the same for the 2011 season. In 2012 softball will be merged with the Lincoln Youth Baseball and Softball. Any player who lives in that area who played in WCLL in Spring 2011 AND/OR any sibling of that player is eligible to continue playing in WCLL until the player is league age 12.

If attending a private or middle school, use the school boundary in which you reside. Do not attempt to violate the residence requirements. "Residence" means where your child lives - not where relatives live, where the child attends school, or where mail is sent. Violating the residence requirement will not only risk your child's ability to participate now and in the future, but it also risks the playing status of the child's team and the entire league.

Why does my child have to go through tryouts?

A better name for the tryout process is player evaluation. This helps us assure that teams are evenly balanced. It also helps assure that a player is placed in the division that is most appropriate for her abilities. Every effort is made to keep the evaluation process low-key and fun. All players will be placed on a team.

Evaluations are scheduled for the weekend of February 25 & 26, 2012. Watch for more information on timing and location in the coming weeks.

Will my child be able to play on the same team as her friends from school?

You may submit "buddy requests" at registration time. We will try to honor requests in the younger non-Draft divisions (i.e., SIngle A, Double A, Triple A), but cannot make any guarantees. For older divisions (i.e., Majors), requests are difficult to honor simply because our goal in team forming is to have balance among the teams in these competitive divisions.

Can I request my daughter be placed with a specific manager?

We will do our best to honor these requests, but there may be times when it is logistically not possible to do this. The Major's Division are drafted so it is not always possible to do this at those levels.

When does the season start and end?

The season begins in early April (weather depending) and runs through mid-June

How much of a time commitment is there for my child?

For younger players the norm is two to three events (practices and/or games) per week. For older players three to four events (practices and/or games) per week is more common. League rules prohibit more than four team events per week.
